This morning, 16 people in ministry in the Greater Washington, DC, area, gathered to hear a special report from the General Secretary of the Baptist World Alliance, at our headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. The report was a confidential one - about Turkish Baptists and their struggles. How can something be distressing and uplifting at the same time? I'm not sure, but it truly was inspiring.
What was most inspiring was to see more than a dozen pastors - from churches large, medium, and small - get excited about connecting with home churches of five to 20 people in a country thousands of miles away.
But after all, these are globally-minded pastors. And this is what the BWA does best: connecting Baptists around the world for unity, fellowship and uplifting support for Christians around the world.
We also came away with great ideas about sharing with local Baptist theological institutions, and in continuing to connect Baptists with churches in local communities when they travel overseas for missions work.
Does this connectedness really matter to you? Does what happens to a Baptist pastor in Turkey or Azerbaijan really have anything to do with you, your call, your church?
We think it does - but we're wondering what you think.
Matt. 10:7 "As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'" NIV
