Times Are Gettin' Tough

We all know the financial crisis isn't just looming; it's here. The national WMU office in Birmingham has declared cost-cutting measures that include one-month furloughs for the whole staff in 2009. That's the approach that car manufacturers use. And it may be the genius stroke to keep the WMU afloat. More power to Wanda Lee and their leadership for the courageous move. Let's pray for them along the way.

The BWA is in no way exempt from the money squeeze. And local churches across North America are trying to be not just good stewards, but superior stewards of the monies entrusted to them.

The question for all of us would be: how do we maintain priorities, fight for justice, share the faith, and at the same time hold together the various Baptist organizations....all within the confines of reduced budgets?

Do these financial times call us to be on our knees more often? Does the struggle help us see more clearly the differences between nice things and the best things?

Let's mull over this....and pray over this together.
