We're now celebrating 400 years of Baptist heritage, but what exactly does that mean? How has my identity as a Christian been shaped by Baptist tradition, specifically? How has your identity been influenced by traditions of believer's baptism or independence from a specific creed? Did you begin in the Baptist tradition, or did you choose it as an adult? Do you embrace some other Christian traditions as you minister longer, or do you cling more to your Baptist identity than you did when your ministry began?
Who are your Baptist heroes? Lottie Moon and Alma Hunt come to the minds of many Baptist women in the USA. Leena Levanya in India is a Baptist "hero" of mine. My great grandparents, honoring a Baptist church building pledge they made before the Depression hit, and selling off precious farmland at reduced prices to meet their promise, are heroes to my own family.
What is it exactly that your ministry embraces that is truly, traditonally Baptist? I hope you'll celebrate BWA Day with us in May, and have your congregation acknowledge 400 years of Baptist heroes!
